FUTA TEST RUN CAMPUS RADIO STATION

There’s a Yoruba adage that implies the house of a king that got burnt, is an added beauty. That is the story of the radio station of the Federal University of Technology Akure.

The campus radio station at the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), in Ondo State, FUTA Radio 93.1FM which was destroyed by a midnight fire in the year 2015.
According to a SaharaReporters report that the fire started after an electrical power surge from the radio station’s studios.

Reports had it that equipment worth millions of Naira was lost to the blaze which also damaged parts of the Registrar Office.

In the early hours of Monday, 18th of September, 2017, the radio station which the university management had been working assiduously to re-launch, was test ran.

The radio station which covers the university community and Akure environs broadcasted music’s of all kinds today.
The student union president in person of comrade Olaseinde Adeyinka Williams (SirNewton) made this known to our correspondent via chat.

In his own words;

_” It was just test runned, FUTA Community should awaits the Futasu Press Release when it will starts fully and also the student’s Union has been pushing this to the management for a while”._

_”We also want to use this medium to thank the management For making it a reality and making the FUTA Radio back on.”_

The student of the university were gladden by this new development but the question on everyone’s lips remains, why did it take this long and when will it kick start broadcast.

FUTA STUDENT’S REACTS TO NEWS OF RESUMPTION

Distorted comfortability is what the announcement of the suspension of the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universites, ASUU, one month, and six days strike becomes for the student’s of the Federal University Of Technology Akure.

Some received the news with gladness, while for others it was the other way round. Funny memes had been trending all over the social media, especially posts from @thefutastudent on Instagram concerning the suspension.

In a WhatsApp group chat, a student posted this also though untrue;

_”All FUTA students are to be informed that the 2016/2017 second semester examination will begin on the 25th of this month. The timetable will be uploaded to the school portal.”_

Below were the reactions that followed;

_”Which kind of news is this one bayi???”_
_”Mtchheww”_
_”Na your pman be VC Abi?”_
_Make we run exam sharp_
_”So that your G.P can drop abi?”_

It should be noted that if not for the strike the University should commence examination yesterday, Monday, 18th of September, 2017, according to the university timetable. But with the ASUU strike the academic calendar had been distorted.

The university students knew examination is sure upon resumption, but they only seek for more grace to prepare well before the day, a concerned futarian who spoke to our correspondent made this known, reiterating that the university should just give the student’s ample time to prepare.

Meanwhile efforts to reach any of the student union executives as at the time of this report was futile. The university community could only await the student union release for more official information.

Meanwhile the Joint Action Congress comprising of three major university workers associstions, is still on strike. it’s however noted that even though they embarked on strike in the last semester, academic activities still continued.

ASSU SUSPENDS STRIKE

BREAKING: ASUU suspends strike, directs lecturers to resume tomorrow

Sep 18, 2017 9:50 PM

ASUU Strike: Lecturers meet Nigerian govt delegation
The Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities, ASUU, has officially suspended its one month, six days strike.

ASUU said it was suspending the strike till October for government to fulfill its pledges.

The union directed university lecturers to resume duty from tomorrow, Tuesday.

The suspension of the strike was announced on Monday evening after a meeting with the government delegation.

At the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was signed with the federal government delegation led by the Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige.

Mr. Ngige had earlier said both parties produced “collective agreement of action” after the meeting.

ASUU embarked on an indefinite strike on August 13, following government’s failure to implement the agreement reached with the union in November 2016.

Debunk Rumours That Academic Activities Has Commenced -FUTA Student Union President.

The students of the Federal University of Technology of Akure have been keeping up with the trends and are eager for any information pertaining to ASUU strike, ever since the commencement of the said strike.

Barely few students are still campus as the Joint Actiom Congress (JAC) Chapter of the University which comprises of Senior Staff of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) and the Non – Academic Staff Union (NASU), joined the strike last week.

There have been different version of false information going viral on WhatsApp, which is the main means of communication for the futarians, about a supposed resumption of academic activities on campus.

The Student Union President in person of Comrade Olaseinde Adeyinka Williams popularly known and addressed as Sir Newton, wrote this on his Whatsapp status this morning;

_”Debunk rumors of commencement of academic activities on campus. ASUU strike is still on. JAC is also on strike. If the academic activities are to resume, it would be made known via the FUTASU press release”._

Some folks out of boredom are just fond of compiling false messages. Student of the university are hereby advised to be selective of information they read on social media.

CAMPUS LIFE

*CAMPUS LIFE*

✍🏼 _*By Ajele Ifekitan*_

Lecture starts 8am, getting to the bus-stop (south gate in my case), you see people on a long queue as expected of good Nigerians while some are rushing straight for the bus as those on the queue are fools. You get to the car park 7.40am and you’re very fortunate to get inside a shuttle by 8.05am.

Getting to the lecture theater, you see it’s filled to the brim an you wonder “do these people sleep at home”. After struggling to get seat at the front, another lecturer cones in and tells you that according to the school time table, he’s meant to have a lecture there. Students then start arguing with each other in search of a free lecture thearter. After walking round like lost children, you could only use the sport complex.

The lecturer wouldn’t speak loud enough for every-one to hear so you have to strain your ears to make something out of what he’s saying. Inspite of your hard struggle, the person sitting next to you was busy scoring music and phones. You wonder, why in a school of technology when there’s music school? Your friend left scoring music to playing it and all you could do was just close your note in anger.

Finishing the class, one of the course reps started asking of some assignment you don’t know about. The deadline of the assignment is 10:30am and your case is different from others who haven’t finish, you don’t even have the question. All you could do was to make use of the dubbing principle, provided you don’t know the assignment, you’ve been permitted by someone else.

Leaving the sport complex for the lecture thearter, you were told the next lecturer won’t be coming. After minutes of waiting for what may turn up, a lady beside you, introduced herself and started the second version of the sermon on the mount.

You are through for the day and you still have to use the “survival of the smartest method” before you could get a shuttle. After not been the “smartest” for the next 20 minutes, you resolved to face and have to trek to obakekere. Thank God for FWT who planted trees by the road side, the effect of the sun……..

In a chat by a reporter with a fessuite who addressed herself as Comrade Mogaji Ayomide, an 100 Level student from the department of Food Science Technology made it known to us that she is yet to believe FESSU FUTA is back.

In own her words;

_”I still don’t believe FESSU FUTA is back on track. This bursary noise might just be another means of scamming us, until I see a prove of the member of the union, who successfully got paid the bursary, I would still stay on the side line, but if eventually all works out of this administration, tthen I can finally believe FESSU FUTA is back”._

We can only hope this administration gets it right, and hope they would be able to achieve their aim of the rejuvenating the union.

“Concerning the direct entry candidates that are unable to register nor make payments, the issue is that their data’s haven’t been updated on FUTA database yet. Hopefully by next week it would be addressed”.

He futher addressed the issues concerning the candidates who did change of institution to FUTA and are unable to register, ‘it’s due to the same reason earlier stated, their data’s haven’t been updated yet” he stated also adding that, “the same applies to candidates who did change of course and it hasn’t reflected on their FUTA print out and etransact slip, it also due to the fact that it has been updated to FUTA database”.

FG, ASUU Reconciliation Meeting Ends With Fresh Agreements

The reconciliation meeting between the Federal Government and members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has ended with agreements reached on some of their demands.

The meeting which is the third reconciliation meeting between both parties commenced on Thursday and ended in the early hours of Friday morning lasted for 13 hours.

During the meeting, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige offered assurances of government’s commitment to immediately commence the payment of salary shortfalls and funding for universities’ infrastructure.

The Federal Government represented by the Minister reached a fresh agreement with striking lecturers with the assurance to commence the payment of salaries shortfalls as well as the quarterly revitalisation funds for universities immediately.

However, students of Nigerian universities might have to stay at more for a while as the academic staff union of universities has stuck to their guns regarding the strike until the resolutions from the meeting are communicated to its national executive council.

The ASUU President,  Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, said, “Once we are able to resolve the contentious issues, we are willing to go back to our members in earnest and take the final decision on this action.”

At the end of the meeting, the ministers and unionists were preparing their communique which is yet to be released.

#Hack: How One Photo Could Have Hacked Whatsapp and Telegram Accounts

IMG_20170316_191639_622
Next time when someone sends you a photo of a cute cat or a hot chick on WhatsApp or Telegram then be careful before you click on the image to view — it might hack your account within seconds.

A new security vulnerability has recently been patched by two popular end-to-end encrypted messaging services — WhatsApp and Telegram — that could have allowed hackers to completely take over user account just by having a user simply click on a picture.

The hack only affected the browser-based versions of WhatsApp and Telegram, so users relying on the mobile apps are not vulnerable to the attack.

According to Checkpoint security researchers, the vulnerability resided in the way both messaging services process images and multimedia files without verifying that they might have hidden malicious code inside.

For exploiting the flaw, all an attacker needed to do was sending the malicious code hidden within an innocent-looking image. Once the victim clicked on the picture, the attacker could have gained full access to the victim’s WhatsApp or Telegram storage data.

This eventually allowed attackers to take full access to the user’s account on any browser, view and manipulate chat sessions, access victim’s personal and group chats, photos, videos, audios, other shared files and contact lists as well.

Millions of WhatsApp and Telegram accounts could have been hacked using just a PHOTO!

To make this attack widespread, the attacker can then send the malware-laden image to everyone on the victim’s contact list, which could, eventually, mean that one hijacked account could be led to countless compromises by leapfrogging accounts.

Here’s Why This Vulnerability Went Undetected:

Both WhatsApp and Telegram use end-to-end encryption for its messages to ensure that nobody, except the sender and the receiver, can read the messages in between.

However, this same end-to-end encryption security measure was also the source of this vulnerability.

Since the messages were encrypted on the side of the sender, WhatsApp and Telegram had no idea or a way of knowing, that malicious code was being sent to the receiver, and thus were unable to prevent the content from being running.

“Since messages were encrypted without being validated first, WhatsApp and Telegram were blind to the content, thus making them unable to prevent malicious content from being sent,” the researchers writes in a blog post.

WhatsApp fixed the flaw within 24 hours on Thursday, March 8, while Telegram patched the issue on Monday.

Since the fixes have been applied on the server end, users don’t have to update any app to protect themselves from the attack; instead, they just need a browser restart.

“It’s a big vulnerability in a significant service,” said Oded Vanunu, head of product vulnerability research at Check Point. “Thankfully, WhatsApp and Telegram responded quickly and responsibly to deploy the mitigation against exploitation of this issue in all web clients.”

WhatsApp did not notice any abuse of the vulnerability, while Telegram claimed the flaw was less severe than WhatsApp, as it required the victim to right click on the image content and then open it in a new window or tab for the malicious code to run and exploit its users.

After fixing this flaw, content on the web versions of both WhatsApp and Telegram will now be validated before the end-to-end encryption comes into play, allowing malicious files to be blocked.

FUTA IMPASSE CONTINUES AS ASUU MAY COMMENCE STRIKE ACTION ON MONDAY

Weeks are beginning to mount weeks since the protest actions have commenced in FUTA. The unusualness of the recent haps and it’s unforeseen longevity has groomed concerns in the University community, most especially the studentry.

The Non-Academic Staff Union has remained resilient in her demands over the weeks despite interventions from varying quarters. Moreover, her members’ refusal to resume to duty posts as directed by the school management has continued to leave the University community in sheer restlessness.

Last week, Inside FUTA heard reports of a possible strike action from the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU who had earlier steered clear of the impasse.

According to our source, the Union may embark on a strike action for reasons not too distant from the JAC’s. However, the emphasis of purpose lies on how the Institution has been mismanaged over the years.

The source also claimed that the certainty of the protest cannot be foretold until a due notice of strike action is passed to appropriate quarters.

The possible strike action maybe looming for commencement on Monday.

From the Quarters of Inside FUTA, we can only pray for FUTA at a time like this.

3. The meeting also assured all workers that nobody will be punished on account of their roles in the impasse thus far.

FUTA MOBILIZE NEWLY GRADUATED STUDENTS FOR NYSC BATCH B 2016

The most recently graduated students of the Federal University of Technology, Akure have been mobilized for the National Youth Service Corp.

The list which was released on Monday, has become the source of joy for lot of new graduates who were earlier perturbed with rumors of possible cut-down in the number of mobilized students.

Our correspondent gathered that all eligible graduates were mobilized for the one-year service to their fatherland, with camps to open on the 24th of November.

The corpers-to-be have then been punching several positive comments on Social Medical platforms as registration kicked-off on the NYSC portal.

A former Urban and Regional Planning student, Alle Adeola who spoke with our correspondent said “Growing up, that NYSC khaki is a dream attire, so upon making the list, that euphoric feeling that comes with such good news engulfed me. Next was the rush to register.”

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM THE THRONE OF FUTA ALUTA

The Great Nigeria Student!!!! Greetings to you all
from the throne of Aluta especially to the aspirant
of THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY
AKURE. This post is just to report to you guys the
present situation in the school as regards the staff
strike as u all know that without the resumption
of the staff, THERE WONT BE ANY ADMISSION
LIST.
The school enviroment is very peaceful with the
help of the Security agents surrounded by the
school gate and Police patrol van operating within
and without the premises of the school.
As at today (18-10-2016) 4pm precisely, JAC FUTA
have meeting in the North gate after delegates
from JAC return from a meeting with the VC , The
University Governing council and the King(Deji of
Akure Land.)
After the report from the meeting was announce
to the JAC Members, it was reported that the VC
has sober and now looking for means to entice
the staff with the arrears allowance in which the
JAC executives said they will never deliberate on
the Allowance until they meet with the staff. Then
the meeting in the king’s palace was adjourn to
Thursday by 12pm.
Back to JAC meeting, the JAC EXECUTIVES ask the
staff if they should honour the king’s invitation on
thursday but the staffs echo in one voice ”NO”.
However, a Woman raised the motion while
another man seconded it. Also, a man Countered
the motion to honour the king and go but all to
no avail as the staffs allegedly buttress out
strategies that may be used in appealing to them
to shift their stand..
The meeting was adjourned to tomorrow mrn to
finalized their decision…
Conclusion, resumption has no date yet and
admission list is not yet out for 2nd batch…

The extension was sequel to the amendment of the Act establishing the JAMB and it scaled through third reading today.

To this end, results obtained from the board by candidates seeking admission into universities are expected to last for three years.

The Senate adopted the recommendation that the UTME examination should have a validity period of three years to reduce the financial burden on parents.

Why MMM is ranked the best online donation exchange in the world*?

Unlike every other scheme which happens to be MLM (multi-level Marketing) where it is a must to put in a specific amount and invite people into the scheme before you can earn anything, MMM dont even need you to do that, just contribute any amount you can and then your 30% awaits you at the end of the month.

Other Online Scheme has a central account where all the monies are paid into, which makes it easy for the scheme to be attacked by anybody or even the said company can cart away with your money. But thats not the case with MMM, because there is no central account anywhere, rather, the transactions are only carried out among the participants in the community that has been paired together by the system. This makes it difficult for anybody in the world to attack it, because its just like the air, you can feel it but you cant hold it.

In other online schemes, payments are made just once, which means that the survival of the scheme depends solely on new participants coming in. But thats not the case with MMM. In MMM you can contribute (PH) as many times as u want with any amount, even if there are no body coming in, the survival of MMM will still depend on the constant withdrawal (GH) and deposits (PH) of participants in the system. Now lets look at it this way, if u deposited #20,000 and after 30days y.😀

Other online Schemes are rigorous and sometimes, even those who has registered and has paid will end up not getting their reward at the end of the day. But MMM will make sure your 30% is paid. And if the person that has been assigned to pay you refuses to pay you after the stipulated time (usually 48hrs) the person will be blocked out of the community and another person will be assigned to pay you your money.

If it were to be other online investments that has received all this media publications by the SEC and CBN this recent times, i am so 100% sure that they would have folded up, but rather, MMM stood her ground with the collective corporations and believes held unto by all the participants. The funniest thing is that, the publications even made MMM more popular 😀.

Finally, my favorite part, in MMM we are not begging anybody to join. Its only for those who want other sources of income apart from the regular thing you are doing. If you think you are ok with the way you are, then be my guest, abeg stay where you are. 🙏🏽 😀

So my friend, tell everyone around you about MMM, invite them and you will also receive 10% refferal bonus as compensation for your own part you have played for the sustainability of the community….

*Wow isnt MMM so sweet?* 😀 FOR MORE INFO CALL OR WHATAPP 08177707307

ASUU distances lecturers from anti-VC protest

The Academic Staff Union of Universities in the Federal University of Technology, Akure, has said the union was not part of the protest by some labour unions of the institution on Thursday.
Members of three labour unions in the university – the Non Academic Staff Union, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the National Association of Academic Technologists – on Thursday, protested against the release of the Vice-Chancellor of FUTA, Prof. Adebiyi Daramola, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The Chairman of ASUU in FUTA, Dr. Bola Oniya, said members of the union were not part of those who called for the sacking of the vice-chancellor.
Oniya stated, “We want to use this opportunity to tell the whole world that ASUU is not part of the protest of last Thursday.”
Similarly, the Student Union Government of the institution described the call for the sacking of the VC as an attempt to destabilise the smooth academic system of the institution and the destiny of the students of the school.

MMM IDEOLOGY

MMM is not a scam, an MLM, HYIP, Bank or Investment company. MMM is a DONATION COMMUNITY where members have decided to help themselves gratuitously, without collateral, provide financial help to each other.
Thirdly, MMM advertises because of the way it works. Even the Banks and organizations do aggressive advertising. Even the banks need more customets to survive. MMM operates the way a stockvel operates. The point is, whose money has Sergei Mavrodi stolen. No member of MMM , anywhere in the world gives his or her money to Mr. Mavrodi. When you join MMM, you do not give your money to MMM. MMM or MMM founder Mr Mavrodi, I repeat, does not collect a dime from anyone anywhere in the world. We members give money to each other. We pay directly into the others Bank account. ….so how does Sergie run away with your money.
MMM has enemies, the politicians, the banks, government and press. Why? Please go do your research very well. Then u will find the answer. I want you to go do that research, when you find it, only then you’ll be convinced to join MMM.

10 FACTS ABOUT MMM NIGERIA.

1. MMM is an innovative and experimental platform where people donate money directly to each other.

2. There are no investors and no investments in MMM. Money is not invested in any asset. Money is donated to the other person. As MMM members donate money, there are no guarantees that people
will be donated back. Everything depends on the members themselves: they develop the Community making it sustainable and creating a permanent process of the exchange of donations.

3. MMM members are rewarded with Mavro after they donate help to other members of the Community.

4. 30% per month is not an interest rate, but an expected growth rate of Mavro. Growth rate of Mavro and its amount can be adjusted at any moment for the benefit of the Community.

5. Mavro is like scores or grades in colleges. Where do grades come from? Is it possible for grades to be out of stock? Grades are taken from nowhere. Students get grades according to their performance. This is the same with Mavros. Mavro is an evaluation of the contribution made by a participant for the development of the Community.

6. MMM is a self-adjusting Community. The algorithms of matching senders and receivers and algorithms of Mavro reward constantly get adjusted and improved.

7. MMM cannot crash because it cannot pay its members. This is due to the fact that MMM is not a corporation involved in financial transactions, MMM just connects senders and receivers.

8. The main factor in the MMM Community is its members’ behaviour. The aim of MMM is not to make people rich, but to change their mindset, to encourage people to share what they have with others. Members should not treat MMM as a money making scheme.

9. MMM members can choose the time when they provide and get help. Usually members follow the principle: donate when you have spare money and ask for money when you need to buy something for your family.

10. MMM wants to increase the velocity of money. No need to keep money: share it with others.MMM wants to emphasize the importance of work and productive labour. You should work not because you get paid for that (working just for money is something like selling your soul or body). People should work consciously and deliberately for their personal and public benefit.

*FUTA STUDENTS STANDS WITH VICE CHANCELLOR* *…* *WANTS IGR FOR MORE FUTA DEVELOPMENT AND NOT PAYMENT OF* *UNPRODUCTIVE “PRODUCTIVITY ALLOWANCE”*

At this critical period, it is better to speak than to keep quiet as we are at a crossroad between forces who are determined to ‘eat our future’ on one side of the divide and another force who are resolutely committed to ‘safeguarding our future’ on the other side of the divide. It is on this note that the entire FUTA students under the authority of the FUTA Students’ Union Government – as the custodian of the students’ mandate – wishes to address the general public, staffs, well wishers, parents, guardians and the students on the current situation that affects the progress and development of our great citadel of learning – FUTA.

The attention of the FUTA Students’ Union has been drawn to the current imbroglio engulfing the various stakeholders of our prestigious institution exacerbated by a frivolous and baseless petition against the Vice Chancellor by some unscrupulous and faceless entities parading themselves as FUTA Staff Unions to the EFCC.

The FUTA Students’ Union, after thorough, painstaking and extensive investigation, is categorically stating in unambiguous terms that the petition that is threatening to tear the institution apart is not only baseless, but also a fabrication of lies, devilish propaganda, inhumane and unjust allegations and a well orchestrated act to discredit, tarnish and destroy the hard earned name and reputation of the Vice Chancellor – Prof Adebiyi Gregory Daramola.
The claims of the staff union, that productivity allowances have been approved by the university council in 2012 is totally false. From the archive of the students union, the Governing Council didn’t approve the payment of the allowances but rather reiterated it uses to provide services for the students.

It is on this note that the FUTA Students’ Union is stating empathically that the actions and display of FUTA SSANU, NASU and NAAT under a joint body named JAC is totally condemned in its entirety. It is an action against the collective and progressive interest of the development in FUTA.

Currently, the massive developmental projects aesthetically littering the landscape of FUTA is unprecedented in the annals of our institution. Records available to the FUTA Students’ Union Government has shown clearly that most of these huge infrastructural projects aimed at improving the academic ambiance of the campus are wholly and/or largely funded under the ingenious IGR scheme accrued to the institution coffers.

At this juncture, it is imperative to state in clear terms that the bane of contention in the blackmailing petition flying around is the fact that the FUTA Staff Unions (SSANU, NASU and NAAT) are ONLY interested in “Business as usual style of sharing the FUTA Internal Generated Revenue (IGR)” as take home or welfare packages tagged “productivity allowance”!

The only demand of the various FUTA Staff Unions – which is the ‘sharing of the FUTA IGR’ – is an attempt at short changing the FUTA brand. It is a selfish and callous move aimed solely at short changing the future of FUTA students. It is a well calculated attempt at mortgaging the destinies of FUTA Students – both present and future – by depriving us of a standard academic institution which the current Vice Chancellor – Prof Biyi Gregory Daramola – is fully committed to.

It must be made clear and noted to the public that our Vice Chancellor is nothing but a focused, dedicated and hardworking man that has, in no small measures, brought tremendous development to FUTA, most especially infrastructure-wise thus advancing academic development through research grants and goodwill enjoyed by the FUTA brand world over.

Furthermore, we are delighted to brief this gentlemen of the press of some of the developmental and students’ oriented project that has directly impacted on both the academic and social development of all NIGERIAN students domiciled in the FUTA which includes but not limited to the following:

1. Ongoing construction of a 200-room Female undergraduate hostel.
2. Ongoing construction of a 200-room Male undergraduate hostel.
3. Construction of Postgraduates hostel.
4. Extension of University Library. It is pertinent to state that FUTA now has the largest capacity library in Nigeria with a capacity to accommodate 2500 students at peak periods.
5. 90% completion water reticulation project for constant water availability on campus.
6. Constant electricity supply with the continued use and maintenance use of the FUTA dedicated line.
7. Annual Renovation of all existing hostels.
8. Construction of a fire station in case of fire outbreak on campus.
9. Construction of more lecture theatres.
10. Establishment of School of Health and Health Technology/accreditation of new departments.
11. Purchase of two new ambulances.
12. Construction of roads which has opened up FUTA for further development.
13. Construction of School of Sciences Building Phase II.
14. Purchase of utility vehicles for easy administrative purpose.
15. Refund of excess Acceptance Fee paid by the then prospective FUTA students who are now financial members of the FUTA Students’ Union as 200 level students.
…. among others.

We are equally proud to say that the FUTA academic calender is very stable compared to what is obtainable in other institutions across the country. Some notable Federal and State-owned tertiary institutions are suffering from acute instability and disruption of their academic calender. It is a bright accolade for FUTA to know that some institutions are still running either the first semester or second semester of 2015/2016 academic session while FUTA is about to resume academic activities for the 2016/2017 academic session in less than four weeks!

It is very selfish, painful, disheartening, inhumane, unproductive and illegal for the various FUTA Staff Unions to agitate and request for the payment unlawful and unproductive allowances from the university. It is surprising that academic members of SSANU, NASU and NAAT have metamorphosed to mathematicians whose only authority now is the sharing formula.

It is disgusting and a high degree of insensitivity being exhibited by SSANU, NASU and NAAT to request for the reversal and diversion of the FUTA Internally Generated Revenue to the selfish payment of staff members’ allowance ahead of developmental projects.

The FUTA Students’ Union will not sit fallow and allow the hard earned money contributed by our hardworking parents and guardians to be used for any other unproductive purpose apart from the development of FUTA which we are currently witnessing in droves on our campus.

Nigerian students are totally not in support of such inhuman request. We see it as evil, barbaric and retrogressive towards FUTA development. It is crystal clear that our money has been judiciously utilized. SSANU, NASU and NAAT should be ashamed of their demands as it doesn’t relate with progressiveness.

We urge the various FUTA Staff Union to reflect on the recent media campaign of President Muhammadu Buhari “Change Begins with me” in our daily lives by jettisoning their demand for the ‘sharing of the IGR’ in favour of more progressive developmental projects.

It is a well known fact that the statutory salaries of the staff had never for once been denied; FUTA staff received their salaries promptly as at when due and also benefits from various staff palliatives.

Enough is enough of the inhuman action by SSANU, NASU and NAAT. It is better advisable for them to rethink and retrace their steps. We urge all FUTA Staff Unions to join hands by supporting the lofty and novel vision of the Vice Chancellor and the University Management towards the development in FUTA.
Let it be clear that the students union in one way or the other are not fighting the Staff union. We have no cause to fight them but rather plead with them and urge them to be considerate and be partner to progress towards FUTA development and academic breakthrough.

Thanks and God bless you

PROTEST OVER FUTA VC

A day after the Vice-Chancellor of
the Federal University of Technology,
Akure was invited to
Ibadan quarters of the EFCC, the
Senior Staff Association of Nigeria
Universities, SSANU and the Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU
of the school staged a mighty protest
within the school
premises.
The protest which started at about 2
o’clock in the afternoon had protesters chanting “Ole” and
lasted till half past three the same
afternoon. The VC who was recently
invited by the EFCC
over fraud and corruption allegations
was accused by the Staff Unions of refusing to pay their
long-term allowances.
The Staff Unions requested the VC be
removed with immediate effect and
that the Federal
Government set up a panel to audit FUTA account.
The Staff Unions were heard saying
“You can’t be facing corruption
charges and be ruling us.
We don’t want another Saraki.”
They went ahead to say “We’re advising Prof. Gregory Adebiyi
Daramola not to come to FUTA
from 4pm this evening. Nobody must
go to office tomorrow. We must
resume here [the front
of New Senate building, the VC’s office].”
“We’re not on strike, we’re on
protest. If you don’t come and you’re
caught, you’re on your
own. But if you come to work and
join the protest, an injury to one is an injury to all” the
protesters said.
“It is our enemies who will not see
tomorrow. They will have diabetes
and the diabetes will kill
them. They will have cancer. They will die of hunger” fiercely it got as
they rounded up.
Our correspondents were not
allowed to go near the core of the
protest as students were not
allowed. However, one of the protesters who does not want his
name disclosed told us the
protest could go un-peacefully if they
were provoked.
Rumours have it that since the
emergence of the Vice-Chancellor, FUTA Staff members have
been deprived of some financial
privileges as the VC trashed out
autonomy of staff members
on funds and disregarded due
process in issues of leadership sustainability.
The students on hearing the news,
have continued to raise concerns on
the possible
consequences. It will be noted that
the sophomore admissions list that should have been
released is yet to be released. The
students also hope it will be resolved
soon, so it does not
affect the academic calendar.
As against the false news that Professor B.K. Alese was involved in
the protest, the Dean is
presently out of school and could not
have been found anywhere near the
protest ground.

EFCC QUIZZES FUTA VC/BURSAR

Professor Adebiyi Daramola, Vice Chancellor Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State and the Bursar, Emmanuel Ademola Oresegun, were quizzed at the Iyaganku office of the EFCC in Ibadan yesterday in respect of an alleged case of Abuse of Office and misappropriation of funds reported against the duo.According to the petition submitted to the Commission, it was alleged that the Vice Chancellor and the Bursar were involved in “Corruption, Fraud, Criminal Breach of Trust, Unlawful Enrichment and Conversion of Millionsof Naira of the University.”The Vice Chancellor allegedly drew Furniture Allowance annually instead of just once in 4 years as approved andhe was paying himself Housing Allowance while residing in the University’s Vice Chancellor’s Quarters. The petition further alleged that he diverted funds from various unrelated subheads to finance other projects without the appropriate approvals for such virement. The VC and Bursar are still undergoing interrogation as at the time of this report.
